Some RTX 5090, 5080 and 5070 Ti cards shipped with fewer render output units than advertised, which measurably reduces performance. Here is how to verify your own card.

A number of desktop RTX 50-series cards — including the RTX 5090, RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti — were reported to have shipped with fewer ROPs (render output units) than their specifications call for. ROPs handle the final stage of rendering a frame, so a shortfall shows up as a real, measurable drop in gaming performance rather than a cosmetic spec difference.

How to Check Your Card

  1. Download GPU-Z from TechPowerUp and open it.
  2. Look at the ROPs/TMUs field on the Graphics Card tab.
  3. Compare it against the official specification for your exact model.
  4. If the number is short, take a screenshot — that is your evidence for an RMA.

MediaVision Technical Analysis

If your card is affected, this is an RMA conversation with the retailer or board partner, not a repair. Cards are generally within warranty, and a hardware shortfall of this kind is a legitimate grounds for replacement. Keep your original invoice and the GPU-Z screenshot together.

One caution from the bench: before assuming a spec problem, rule out the ordinary causes of low frame rates — an old driver, a power limit set in the BIOS, thermal throttling, or the monitor plugged into the motherboard instead of the graphics card. We see all four far more often than we see a genuinely defective card.

Not sure how to read the result? Bring the machine in and we will check it with you.
